Manitoba Pro Wins Top Award
Cory Kartusch, Head Professional at St. Charles CC in Winnipeg was named 2004’s recipient of the CPGA Merchandiser of the Year in February. Merchandiser nominees are judged on criteria such as merchandising philosophy to Pro Shop layout and display techniques.
Kartusch credits his staff as the key ingredient on earning the award. “I am thrilled to receive the Merchandiser of the Year Award, and I believe encompasses the efforts of our entire staff,” stated Kartusch. “We did a great job this year and we all worked together to contribute to the success of the shop. Being the 100th Anniversary of St. Charles, it gave the staff extra incentive to present a great line of products for the Club’s special season.” In addition, Kartusch will receive an all expense paid trip to Hawaii compliments of MasterCard International. “Ironically, I was in Hawaii when I found out about the award and I am grateful to MasterCard International for their support,” added Kartusch.
Growing up in Regina, Kartusch began working at Wascana CC under the tutelage of Graham Coulter, past president of the CPGA (1991-1992). “Graham taught me a lot about the business aspect of being a golf professional and gave me the initial motivation to becoming one,” commented Kartusch.” Mike Sherman, Head Professional at Rosedale Golf Club, later hired Kartusch as associate at St. Charles in 2000. “I will always be grateful to Mike for giving me the opportunity to come to St. Charles.” Kartusch joined the Canadian PGA in 1994 after completing Lethbridge Community College’s Professional Golf Management Program. He has been a Class ‘A’ member of the Canadian PGA since 1997 and was appointed the Head Professional at St. Charles in 2002.
