Team British Columbia, comprised of Matthew Broughton of Victoria, B.C., Kevin Ko of Coquitlam, B.C. and Chris Crisologo of Richmond, B.C., captured the Inter-Provincial Team Championship title at the 2012 Canadian Junior Boys Championship at Osprey Ridge Golf Club in Bridgewater, N.S.

They claimed the victory after posting a playoff victory over the Team Ontario squad of Gajan Sivabalasingham of Ballantrae, Ont., Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont., and Eric Flockhart of Mississauga, Ont.

Taking into account the best two of three individual player scores each day over the first 36 holes of stroke play, the Team British Columbia and Team Ontario contingents posted matching scores of 15-over par 299 to force a playoff scenario.

Broughton, who captured the 2012 B.C. Junior Boys’ Championship in mid-July, made birdie on the first playoff hole, No. 1, to clinch the victory for Team British Columbia.

“None of these guys had been on a Team B.C. at this level of championship golf before, so congratulations to three rookies who came out here and played their best,” said Team B.C. Non-Playing Captain Jody Jackson.

“We talked a little bit about keeping our heads in the game and never giving up and they followed suit. It was a really good team effort.”

Team Alberta finished third at 16-over par 300, while Team Nova Scotia placed fourth at 18-over par 302. Team Newfoundland rounded out the top-5 at 19-over 303.

In the Junior Boys division, Ryan Borg of Orangeville, Ont. sits atop the leaderboard after carding a second-round score of 4-under par 67. Borg, who recently placed T9 at the 2012 Investors Group Ontario Junior Boys’ Championship, carded a bogey-free round that included four birdies to sit at 2-under par 140 heading into third round play.

“It’s the second time I’ve ever done it,” said Borg, commenting on his bogey-free effort. “I was out on the course, and I was like, 'I haven’t made a bogey,' and you just can’t let it creep into your head, so I did a really good job blocking that out, and blocking out thoughts like, 'I’m probably leading, I’m 4-under.' I just tried to keep making birdies, and keep playing my game and I hope to do that tomorrow.”

Borg holds a one-stroke lead over Montreal’s Daniel Knight who is in sole possession of second place. Knight, a sophomore at Dartmouth College, shot 2-under par 69 on the day and is 1-under par 141 for the championship.

Team Canada Development Squad member Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C. also shot 2-under par 69 on the day to sit T3 alongside Nick Browning of Midhurst, Ont. at 2-over par 144, four shots off the lead.

Defending Canadian Junior Boys Championship titleholder Kevin Kwon of Pitt Meadows, B.C., a member of Team Canada’s Development Squad, is T14 with four other competitors with a 36-hole tally of 5-over par 147.

Matt Codd of Red Deer, Alta. continues to lead the Juvenile Boys division through 36 holes of play after posting a second-round score of 3-over 74 on Wednesday.

Codd, who sits at 3-over par 145 for the championship, leads Blair Bursey of Gander, Nfld. and Zackery Secord of Midland, Ont. by a single stroke as both are at 4-over par 146. A total of 75 players made the cut, which was set at 13-over 155.

As a result of inclement weather early in the day, play was suspended at 9:00 a.m. ADT forcing all competitors off the golf course. Play ultimately resumed at 10:35 a.m. ADT, with afternoon tee-times pushed back by approximately 90 minutes each.

The 2012 Canadian Junior Boys Championship resumes, Thursday, August 2, with third-round play beginning at 7:30 a.m. (ADT).
