Alberta PGA Intent On Bringing Youth Into The Game

altRealizing that youth is the future of their game is one thing for golf’s professional staff. Having those same youth become part of the game is quite another.
 
Because of that, the Alberta PGA and its member clubs are striving to bring more kids on-stream with the game of a lifetime, by giving them access to opportunities anywhere and everywhere.
 
Included in that was the putting zone set up for kids at the recent Alberta Golf Show in Edmonton, which was run by club pros.

In one of those peculiarities in life, if the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour were a player in its own entity it would be nearing the end of its life span.
 
As it is however, the series of golf tournaments for youngsters in Alberta is only getting better, even after 17 years.

It’s up to women professional golfers to fix what ails the game in this day and age.

The fact there aren’t a lot of young women playing the game is nothing new but the fact that it’s up to those in the upper echelons to help change the face of the game is perhaps an idea that hasn’t really been bandied about before – at least until recently.
 
Laura Witvoet, the director of instruction at Alberta’s famed Wolf Creek GC, said in a recent interview with Inside Golf that the ladies at the top best be paying attention to the youth below them in order to help their livelihood thrive and yes, even survive.

The Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) isn’t promising its young players fame and fortune but what they will give them is a good start at putting a game together that could eventually lead them down that road.
 
Trent Matson, from the MJT, explained this program with over 55 events this summer for young players is run by golf professionals and was developed and put into play 14 years ago by its executive director, Murray Poje, in B.C.
