PGA Of Alberta Announces Award Finalists For 2012

The PGA of Alberta has named its finalists for the association’s annual awards, which will be presented Wednesday at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

Beginning July 1st until September 1st of each year, PGA of Alberta Members are able to nominate a deserving Member of their choice in the following categories:

Club Professional of the Year, Assistant of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Junior Leader of the Year, Merchandiser of the Year (Private & Public), and Sales Representative of the Year.

Mike Belbin Wins PGA Assistants Championship

Mike Belbin of the Royal Mayfair Golf Club posted a final round 1-under 70 to win his second straight PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada on Wednesday at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club.

Belbin, whose 12-under total was two shots clear of three other players, becomes just the second player in the history of the Association to win back-to-back titles, the first since Serge Thievierge in 1979-80.

In the world of golf, the term “professional” can encompass a wide-ranging spectrum of job descriptions.
 
First off there’s the guys and gals who make big money playing the game as on the PGA and LPGA Tours.
 
Then there’s the group all of us know, those fine folk that man the pro shops at our local club, booking tee times and selling merchandise.
 
Yet another type of pro is the teacher, the guy or gal who spends hours each day working to help their students, young and old, perfect their game.
 
Finally, there’s a fourth type of golf pro, the one that not many people think about – those that use the art of the game for entertaining others.

The Quarry Proves Wait Was Worth It For Edmonton Golfers

The Quarry, the newest golf course in Edmonton lives up to all its advance billing – and more.
 
The Quarry is an absolutely wonderful track from the first hole and its demanding downhill right-to-left tilting fairway, to the final hole, one with water guarding the left side off the tee and an approach shot into a double green.
 
Designed by Les Furber, The Quarry comes complete with five tee boxes for each hole over a layout that will encompass 27 holes by next year. For now it’s 18 holes, but what an 18 holes it is.
