VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The final event on the 2020 Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour for players ages six to twelve ran in Vancouver, BC, where 74 competitors were set to compete for titles in six divisions in the MJT Mini Tour Fall Classic at Musqueam Golf Course. Despite rainy conditions, which deterred some of the field, brilliant scoring was recorded, including a one-under-par 59 on the par-60 Musqueam Golf Course from 12-year old Eric Li from Port Coquitlam, BC.

Li claimed Low Overall for the event along with the MJT Boys 11-12 Division title after a fantastic campaign this year, both on the MJT Mini and Junior tours. “I feel awesome,” he remarked. “I stayed positive and focused on my own game.”

10-year old Jeevyn Lotay, of Burnaby, BC, fired a 67 to take home the victory in the MJT Boys 9-10 Division. Lotay, with his performance at Musqueam, picked up his first MJT Mini Tour win in 2020 and second since beginning to compete in 2019. “It feels good to win after all the practice I’ve put in,” he commented. “I love being a part of the MJT tour and I think it’s good for kids development.”

The MJT Boys 8U Division witnessed seven-year old Bentley Hoogerdyk shoot a 64 to win the title by two shots. The Victoria, BC, golfer earned his first MJT Mini Tour title since beginning to compete last year. “My putting was great today,” commented Hoogerdyk, when asked about the key to his win. “I’m very happy to get a win and I loved the event.”

In the MJT Girls 11-12 Division, 11-year old Miranda Lu held off the field to win by one after the Vancouver golfer fired 68 to earn the first MJT Mini Tour win of her career. Lu has seen steady improvements to her game this season. “I practiced everyday because I had a goal to achieve,” commented Lu, who achieved that goal on Saturday. “I’m happy to win and that all the practice was worth it.”

Kathleen Dunn was back at it again picking up another Girls 9-10 title at Musqueam. The nine-year old golfer from Surrey, BC, has been a force since starting on the MJT in 2018, earning multiple victories over the last three years including the 2020 MJT Mini Tour National Champion title for Girls 9-10. “I feel awesome,” commented Dunn. “The MJT is the best junior tour I have played on and this was great way to finish the season.”

Maisy Shewchuk, 7, had an incredible performance at Musqueam capturing the victory in the MJT Girls 8U Division with a score of 77. Shewchuk, who recently moved from Winnipeg, MB, has made her mark on the MJT Mini Tour across Canada winning in Manitoba, Alberta, and now twice this year in BC. “I kept my head in the game,” commented the seven-year-old, who looked focused for the duration of her round.
