NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Web.com Tour) — The Web.com Tour’s Nashville Golf Open Benefitting the Snedeker Foundation announced Monday that Jake Owen will compete in the 2018 event, to be contested at Nashville Golf & Athletic Club the week of May 21-27. Owen will maintain his amateur status in the event and will compete on an unrestricted sponsor exemption.

Owen is the second high-profile name to earn an exemption into a Web.com Tour event this year, joining 2017 NBA champion and Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Stephen Curry, who competed in the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae in August.

"It’s so cool to have been awarded a sponsor exemption to play in the Nashville Golf Open,” said Owen. “I am truly honored to have this opportunity to play golf with guys whose work ethic I admire so much, like my buddy Brandt Snedeker. I know how hard everyone works to get to play in these PGA TOUR tournaments. I’m really grateful, and I can’t wait for this week in May 2018 to get here.”

Owen has participated in several PGA TOUR pro-ams, including The RSM Classic last week on St. Simons Island, Georgia, where he played alongside tournament host and World Golf Hall of Fame member Davis Love III. He has partnered with 2015 FedExCup champion Jordan Spieth at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am each of the last four years, receiving "The Arnie Award" during the 2017 event alongside Peyton Manning and Phil Mickelson, as part of Golf Digest's "Golfers Who Give Back" event.

"I'm very excited to have Jake in the NGO field next May,” said Snedeker. “He's shown that he has the ability to compete on this level with his play at various TOUR events in the past. Mandy and I were thrilled to learn of him winning an 'Arnie Award' earlier this year for work done by the Jake Owen Foundation and it's only fitting that we recognize his charitable work as much as we do his golf skills. He's a great fit for the NGO on so many different levels!”

Owen, who resides in Nashville, has released five studio albums, including AMERICAN LOVE in 2016, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200 all-genre chart. The album’s lead single "American Country Love Song" topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart on September 17, 2016.

In 2008, Owen was a Grammy Award nominee in the category of Best Country Collaboration With Vocals. The Vero Beach, Florida, native was named Top New Male Vocalist at the 2009 Academy of Country Music Awards, and earned Breakthrough Artist of the Year honors at the American Country Awards in 2012.

“It’s really exciting to be able to include Jake in our 2018 event,” said Nashville Golf Open Executive Tournament Director Patrick Nichol. “He will be a great addition and we look forward to a great event in May. Having Brandt, Jake and the Snedeker Foundation involved is quite an accomplishment for a tournament in only its third year. We have been very pleased with the support and our growth of the tournament in the market. Our goal is to be the best event on the Web.com Tour, and this certainly elevates our tournament.”

In May of this year, the Snedeker Foundation was named as official charitable beneficiary of the Nashville Golf Open, marking the first time a Web.com Tour graduate had lent his name to a Web.com Tour event. Founded in 2012, the Snedeker Foundation has raised more than $1 million for several different charities across Middle Tennessee. The Foundation supports a variety of efforts on both the social and athletic fronts, including Our Kids, which provides expert medical evaluations and crisis counseling services in response to concerns of child sexual abuse, while also working to increase community awareness, education and training about child maltreatment.
