‘Drive On!’ to the 2019 BMW Ladies Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — The 2019 BMW Ladies Championship will be held at LPGA International Busan in Busan, Republic of Korea, from October 24 to 27. The field will comprise 84 players, including the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour money list, 30 KLPGA players and four sponsor exemptions.

The tournament will be held in a 72-hole stroke-play format over four days, with top players racing to earn the BMW Ladies Championship trophy. The prize money is $2 million USD, with a winner’s check of $300,000.

Since March, the LPGA has been working on a major renovation of LPGA International Busan, which was created through a contract with the city of Busan. Formerly known as Asiad Country Club, the venue will soon be reborn as a new championship course.

"We are excited to partner with BMW in creating this global platform for women’s golf," said Sean Pyun, LPGA Chief Business Officer - Asia. "I have no doubt that people of Busan will welcome the world’s best golfers to their hometown and embrace the premium LPGA experience created by BMW.”

"It is exciting just to imagine the LPGA players arriving in Busan, hopping in a brand-new BMW 7 Series, heading to LPGA International Busan to compete for the inaugural BMW Ladies Championship trophy. Together with BMW, we look forward to introducing and showcasing the city of Busan to the global LPGA audience over 170 countries.”

"The BMW Ladies Championship is the only women's golf tournament among the many global tournaments hosted by BMW," said Dr. Wolfgang Hacker, Head of Brand Management of BMW Korea. "Also, because this is the first BMW tournament sanctioned by LPGA in Korea, we will put that much more effort in making it into one of the best women's golf tournaments."

According to tournament officials, the BMW Ladies Championship saw successful sales in July after conducting an early-bird ticket promotion on its online ticket site, www.interpark.com. A second ticket promotion launched on August 16.

The LPGA and BMW Korea recently met with the KLPGA to prepare for the competition. Under the agreement, KLPGA will work as a “local partner tour” in the fields of competition and management.
