Top Five Stats From The PGA TOUR Over The Past Decade

Shawn Stefani and Scott Brown

With the introduction of ShotLink, the Tour has been able to analyze more than 12 million shots since 2010. Here are some of the more mind-boggling stats that came from this big-data collection...

#5 Dustin Johnson’s 463-Yard Drive

Dustin hit the longest drive of the decade, a 463-yard blast in the final round of the 2011 Dell Technologies Championship. It should be noted that this tee shot was aided by a bounce off the cart path. Still Johnson’s 22 drives of 400-plus yards were the most of any player this decade.

#4 Angel Cabrera’s 100+ Foot Putt

Angel Cabrera made the longest measured putt of the decade, a 103-footer in the final round of the 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open. He sank it on TPC Scottsdale’s 17th hole. Somehow you’d think there would be one longer than that... like 250 feet.

#3 Most Aces Made

Two players made five aces during the decade: Shawn Stefani and Scott Brown. Combined, there were 317 aces made by 212 different players.

#2 Strokes Gained Stats

There are few that stand out. For a single season, in 2012 Bubba Watson gained +1.485 strokes against the field off the tee. In the same year tee to green combined  Rory McIlroy gained an unbelievable +2.347 strokes. For the entire decade, in the combined category (all shots inlcuded: Off the tee, approaches, scrambling and putting), Rory gained a phenomenal +1.670 against the field. This put him more than half a stroke better than the the #10 for the decade, Justin Thomas.

#1 The Best Statistical Performances

In 2014, Francesco Molinari hit the fairway more than three-quarters of the time (76.88%). In the same year Henrik Stenson hit greens in regulation just about as often (73.52%) while Jim Furyk got up-and-down (scrambling) almost seven times out of ten (69.33%).
Among the putters, Brian Gay averaged 27.51 putts per round in 2013, the same year Jordan Spieth sank almost half of every first putt he saw (45.86%)!
