PGA of Alberta Hopes Moving Days Will Be Beneficial To Golfers

EDMONTON, Alberta — As they say, better late than never. Or in this case, it’s better late and because of that, it should be better.

That’s the take from the PGA of Alberta’s big boss, Robert Rouselle, on the date change for the annual Spring Golf Show in Edmonton. The date shift sees the two-day event run later, meaning it will be more in conjunction with the start of the golf season in north-central Alberta.

“It was asked from us for a couple of years to move the date a little bit later,” so that the northern show would actually follow the southern show in Calgary, which it had preceded for a number of years prior to 2020, explained Rouselle. “Calgary still has the same date but Edmonton will now be after that.”

Besides bringing the Edmonton show closer to the start of the golf season, which is generally later than Calgary’s start, the move was done to also hopefully draw more exhibitors to Edmonton, which has always been a smaller show than its southern sister.

“Hopefully participation (in Edmonton) will increase,” said Rouselle. “The excitement about the golf season should be a little higher (from the public). I think it will generate that, at least that’s our hope,” he continued about drawing in more visitors plus more vendors to Edmonton. “We are planning on more space in relation to that and hoping to have more people come through the doors.”

In closing, Rouselle said the plan to tee the Edmonton show up later than Calgary had been in the works for a while, but just hadn’t come to fruition. At least until this spring.

“It’s been discussed for many years but we just couldn’t find a home. The timing just couldn’t happen. Now, it’s in a good place.”

The Calgary show will now lead off the consumer showcase events, taking place on March 21 and 22 in Hall B at the Calgary Stampede BMO Centre. Edmonton’s show, which was formerly held early in March, now shifts to April 4 and 5 in Hall C at the Edmonton Expo Centre. Both shows run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the second day.

The Calgary show expects to have over 50 exhibitors on hand while Edmonton, at this time, has over 30 confirmed vendors with hopes it will grow in the coming years given the date change.
