The Evian Championship Purse Increased To US$3.65 Million

Players To Compete For Additional US$300,000; 2017 LPGA Season Purse Elevated To A Record US$67.65 Million.
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) today announced that the purse for the 2017 Evian Championship, the season’s final major, has been raised to $3.65 million. This $300,000, which will be added to a previously announced $100,000, increases the 2017 LPGA season purse to a record $67.65 million.
"We are extremely delighted and proud to announce this increase in our prize money,” said Franck Riboud, chairman of The Evian Championship. “This development once again resonates with our desire to position The Evian Championship as a platform to aid the promotion and growth of women's golf."
This news added to an already record-setting year for the LPGA Tour. The $67.65 million at stake in 2017 is up $4.65 million from 2016, while sixteen LPGA events feature purses of $2 million or higher, double the amount the Tour had just six years ago.
"When the 2017 season began, The Evian Championship had already agreed to increase the purse by $100,000, but recently they decided to take it up an additional $300,000," said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. "While the overall Evian experience consistently sets the standard for unique and special on Tour, it's great to see Evian continue to be a leader in growing the economic opportunity for the best female golfers in the world!"
The 2017 Evian Championship will be conducted September 14-17 at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France. In 2016, In Gee Chun set a scoring record for majors, male or female, at 21-under 263 en route to a four-stroke victory and capturing Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year honors. Sunday’s final round will be broadcast on NBC from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern (tape delay), while the first three rounds will air live on Golf Channel.
