Kiziak Goes 3-Under-Par In MJT Mini Tour At Blue Devil Golf Club

CALGARY, Alberta — Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour began a series of four straight event days in Calgary, AB, beginning with the MJT Mini Tour at Blue Devil Golf Club, which preceded a three-day Junior Tour stop at McKenzie Meadows Golf Club. In the Mini Tour stop, young players between the ages of six and twelve competed for titles in six divisions and capitalized on great scoring conditions at the Par 62 Blue Devil Golf Club.

The MJT Boys 11-12 Division saw 12-year-old Harrison Kiziak, of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, shoot a three-under-par score of 59 to win by a single shot. Kiziak, who is playing in his first year on the MJT Mini Tour, picked up his first title in his second career start. “I am really excited to be here,” commented Kiziak, who was enjoying himself on the golf course. “My mental game was the key to my win and I’m really excited to get the win.” Solomon Tong, 11, of Heritage Pointe, AB, placed second with a great score of 60.

Another one-shot margin separated the top two players in the MJT Boys 9-10 Division. Mason Kuryvial, 10, of Taber, AB, took home the division title after firing a score of 63, making two birdies on his last four holes. “I think the key to my win was making the birdie on the last hole,” said Kuryvial, who came up clutch at the end. “I’m proud that I continued to focus one shot at a time and play my best on the MJT.” Jake Fairey, 10, of Edmonton, AB, shot 64 to finish in second place.

Eight-year-old Oscar Gosgnach, of Edmonton, AB, fired a round of 68 to win the MJT Boys U8 Division. Gosgnach, who was competing in his first ever MJT Mini Tour event, started off positively by picking up his first win. “I hit my tee shots straight,” commented Gosgnach. “I feel really good to win the tournament.” Eight-year-old Niko Tran, of Calgary, AB, was runner-up with a score of 74.

The MJT Girls 11-12 Division saw a tight contest take place between 11-year-old Calgary players Jasmine Lazzari and Justine Leon. Emerging victorious was Lazzari with a score of 68. “My dad really helped me focus on hitting greens in regulation,” commented Lazzari, attributing her fine play to her caddy. “It feels amazing knowing that all my practice paid off.” Leon shot a score of 69 to finish the division in second place.

In the MJT Girls 9-10 Division, Calgary-native Elle Banister, 10, fired a round of 78 to win the title. “I had a great back-nine,” commented Banister, who turned her round around after making the turn. “I had a lot of fun winning on the MJT.”

Continuing to impress in the MJT Girls 8U Division was eight-year-old Sedona Weitz of Calgary, who earned another Mini Tour win at Blue Devil Golf Club after recording a score of 74. “I never gave up,” commented Weitz. “I feel really happy and proud to win.”
