Exciting Start To MJT Atlantic Canada Mini Tour For 12U At Avon Valley

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s popular Mini Tour for young players ages 7 to 12, which has seen extensive growth across the country, finally held its inaugural stop in the Maritimes in Falmouth, NS. The MJT Mini Tour at Avon Valley Golf and Country Club ran after day one of the two-day Junior Tour event held at the same facility on July 19 and 20.

The MJT hopes the program in the Maritimes will grow to achieve the same success as it has in other provinces, such as in British Columbia for example, where the Mini Tour started in 2014 and now has full fields of 100 very young players learning tournament golf.

Leading away in the MJT Boys 9-10 division was 10-year-old Liam Wheaton, of Memramcook, NB. Wheaton recorded a score of 78 at Avon Valley to win the division title by two shots.  Nine-year-old Hunter Burke, of Charlottetown, PEI, recorded a score of 80 to finish runner up.

The MJT Boys 8U Division saw Valley, NS, resident Blake Butcher, 8, shot a score of 111 to beat runner-up Sam MacPherson, 8, of Halifax, NS for the division title.

In the MJT Girls 9-10 Division, nine-year-old Lila Bishop, of Port Williams, NS, came out to compete on the MJT Mini Tour in Atlantic Canada for the first time, shooting 100, and 11-year-old Zara Kenley of Digby, NS, carded a score of 114 in the MJT Girls 11-12 Division.

The MJT Atlantic Canada 12U circuit next heads to Moncton, NB, for the MJT Mini Tour at Royal Oaks Golf and Estates. Registration for the event remains open and more details can be found online at www.maplejt.com.
