Glumpak, Gibson, Walker & Yu Earn Victories At King’s Forest

HAMILTON, Ontario — The Canadian Junior Golf Association continued its Ontario Fall Series this past weekend at the beautiful King’s Forest Golf Club in Hamilton, ON. The weather was unusually hot for this time of year in Ontario which forced players to adapt to the warm weather from the cooler temperatures. The juniors found the golf course to be tricky and tough but they were able to adapt in-between rounds which saw much better scores during the final round.
Junior Boys U19
Malcolm Glumpak of Burlington, ON, was able to bounce back from an opening round 83 to post a final round 75 to clinch the Junior Boys division title by one shot. Glumpak entered the final round four shots off the lead and was able to shoot the low round of the tournament to climb the leaderboard and hold off a charge from the runner-up.
“It was mostly putting, I would take more time reading putts on the greens because each green kind of had a different speed and different breaks,” replied Glumpak when asked about the biggest difference between his first and second round play, “I read them a lot better and holed more putts.”
RJ Derhodge from Niagara Falls, ON, finished as the runner up at Kings Forest, narrowly missing out on forcing a playoff with Glumpak. Derhodge started the final round two shot behind the first round leader and was able to climb up the leaderboard with a final round 78 which gave him official tournament scores of 81-78-159.
Junior Girls U19
Kacey Walker of Mississauga, ON, was able to break through to capture the Junior Girls title at the Ontario Fall Series event at Kings Forest this past weekend. Walker was able to comfortably win the division after posting scores of 91-84-175. Kacey’s final round 84 was the lowest score posted in the division during the event.
Amanda He of Oakville, ON, finished in the runner up spot in the Junior Girls division. He posted tournament rounds of 102-97-199.
Bantam Boys U15
Zander Gibson of Milton, ON, was able to capture the Bantam Boys title this past weekend at Kings Forest by being the only player in the division to break eighty during both of his rounds. Gibson was able to comfortably win the division by eight shots after he posted rounds of 75-77-152. His opening round 75 was the low round of the tournament and gave him a four shot lead entering the final round.
“The fairways are pretty hard so you have to hit an accurate tee shot on the proper side of the fairway so it doesn’t run out into the rough or behind trees,” explained Gibson on playing Kings Forest, “The greens are fast and rolling, you need to play the right amount of break or else putts are gone.”
Noah Campbell of Pickering, ON, was able to finish in second place at Kings Forest over the weekend to kick off his Fall Series. Campbell shot consistent rounds of 80-80-160.
Bantam Girls U15
Annie Yu from Richmond Hill, ON, was able to capture the Bantam Girls trophy. Yu had tournament rounds of 96-94-190 to comfortably win the division title. Her final round 94 was the low score in the division.
Runner-up in the Bantam Girls division was Calista Zeng from Maple, ON. Zeng was able to improve on her first round score by seven shots to finish in second place. Calista’s official tournament scores are 104-97-201.
