PGA Professionals To Be Featured In CBS Sports Special, July 29

By PGA OF AMERICA

The quest by PGA Professionals to compete in the Association’s signature major and their impact on many of the game’s greatest players form the backdrop for “The Road to the 100th PGA Championship,” which CBS Sports will air nationally on Sunday, July 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.

The program will highlight the inspirational journey of four PGA Club Professionals to the 100th PGA Championship, Aug. 9-12, at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The segments include reigning PGA Professional Champion Ryan Vermeer, the PGA Director of Instruction at Happy Hollow Club in Omaha, Nebraska; runner-up Sean McCarty, PGA Head Professional of Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville, Iowa; PGA General Manager Johan Kok of Troubadour in Nashville, Tennessee; and 2014 national champion Michael Block, PGA Head Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Hills, California, who grew up in St. Louis, not far from Bellerive.

Other segments will look at the bond between PGA of America coaches and their star pupils, including defending PGA Champion Justin Thomas and his coach/father, PGA Professional Mike Thomas; three-time major champion Jordan Spieth trying to complete the Grand Slam at the PGA Championship and 2015 PGA Teacher of the Year Cameron McCormick; Kevin Kisner – who fell short at the 2017 PGA Championship – and PGA coach, John Tillery; and Patton Kizzire, whose career was reignited through the guidance of 2010 PGA Teacher of the Year Todd Anderson.

“The Road to the 100th PGA Championship” also will profile Bellerive Country Club PGA Director of Golf Mike Tucker and his brother Jerry, a PGA Life Member, who served the club from 1987-96, and the last host professional to compete in a PGA Championship (1992).

“The Road to the 100th PGA Championship” will replay on Golf Channel on Tuesday, July 31, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET and Wednesday, August 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.

CBS Sports also will air a “PGA Championship Preview” on Sunday, August 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET.

Additionally, the program will focus on the link between Bellerive Country Club, the St. Louis community and the groundbreaking Gateway PGA REACH Foundation. The community initiative, which was spearheaded by St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, continues to serve as a national model for impacting the lives of children, veterans and diverse populations through golf.
