Feherty Reveals Relapse After Son's Death on HBO's Real Sports

Former professional golfer, the now analyst, has been long open about his alcohol problems...

HBO recently interviewed Feherty on Bryant Gumble's Real Sports which will view tonight.

Feherty talks about his recent relapse after 10 years sober.

Feherty, who is once again sober started drinking again after losing his son Shey to an overdose in 2017.

It was Shey's 29th birthday.

Feherty was at a friend's ranch after losing his son.

“I was at a friend’s ranch,” Feherty told Gumbel.

“I had gone up there to be by myself, and I thought, ‘You know what, I’ve been sober for 10 years. I’m tired of it. I’m tired of being sober. I want to feel better.’

“I convinced myself that it would make me feel better. Before I knew it, it had me under control.”

Telling Golf Digest last year, Feherty talked about having to cut his son off when he asked for money.

He assumed it was for drugs.

"He was lost in many ways," said Feherty which reminded him a lot about himself.

He feels guilty and devasted for what happened to him.

“I apologize to him every day,” Feherty said.

“Why apologize?” Gumbel asked.

“I’m sorry, son. I wasn’t there,” Feherty said.

“I mean I just wasn’t there. I was always gone. Times that I was drunk. Times that I was high. That could’ve been times that I would have spent with him.”
