The Four Winds Invitational, a premier summer event on the Symetra Tour schedule in South Bend, Indiana, made an US$85,000 donation to Beacon Children’s Hospital. Representatives from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and Four Winds Casino, two major sponsors of the tournament, were on hand at Beacon Children’s Hospital to make the check presentation.
“The Four Winds Invitational is a top-notch event because of the traditional measures like the tournament purse and quality of golf course, but most importantly because of their commitment to Beacon Children’s Hospital,” said Chief Business Officer Mike Nichols. “The Four Winds Invitational came on six years ago and raised the bar when it comes to what it truly means to host a Symetra Tour tournament."
The funds will be used to pay for three patient simulators to help train doctors and nurses.
The 2017 Four Winds Invitational was the sixth annual event and the tournament has raised over US$430,000 for Beacon Children’s Hospital.
Each year, Symetra Tour players visit the hospital and the patients design the tee markers that are used on all 18 holes throughout the tournament.
Kendall Dye won this years’ Four Winds Invitational with a stunning final-round 64 to secure her second career win.
Blackthorn Golf Club owner Tim Firestone has been influential in the relationship between the Tour, the Pokagon Band, Four Winds Casino and Beacon Children’s Hospital.
