Turchan, Bulau, Lu, Xu Earn Victories at Kings Riding

KING CITY, Ontario (CJGA) — The Canadian Junior Golf Association was pleased to host the CJGA Junior at Kings Riding. The tournament had some great competition along with great weather conditions throughout the two days. The Kings Riding golf course was in great shape and the juniors really enjoyed the course layout during the event.
Junior Boys U19
Alexander Turchan from Conestogo, ON was able to clinch the Junior Boys division title at Kings Riding. Turchan had rounds of 75-78-153 to win by two strokes. Alexander entered the final round tied for the lead and was able to hold off a charging Matt Quizi, by posting a back nine 38.
“Definitely my driving, it was a big strength of my during the event, finding the fairway off of the tee here is key here.” explained Turchan when asked about the best part of his game during the tournament. Alexander had a great birdie on the eighteenth hole after sticking his approach shot about three feet from the hole. This is Turchan’s first win on the CJGA Junior Tour as he previous won an event on the Linkster tour.
Brady Futterer of Aurora, ON finished in second place at Kings Riding after shooting rounds of 75-80-155, two shots back of Turchan.
Junior Girls U19
Angi Lu of Richmond Hill, ON was victorious in the Junior Girls division at Kings Riding. Lu shot rounds of 85-87-172 to hoist the divisional trophy. Her first round 85 was the lowest score posted in the girls divisions.
Bantam Boys U15
Hometown King City native, Kiefer Bulau was able to come away as the Bantam Boys champion at Kings Riding on Friday afternoon. Bulau posted rounds of 75-81-156 to win by three shots. Kiefer’s opening round 75 gave him a one shot lead entering the final round and was the lowest round of the tournament within the division.
“I was feeling really confident, I’ve been shooting low scores, I had a really good three rounds at the CJGA Eastern Canadian Junior Championship at Eagle Ridge, which gave me some confidence.” said Bulau on the state of his game after winning. Kiefer’s short game and ball striking were solid all week which helped propel him to the victory.
Ethan Gillis of Pickering, ON finished in solo second place at the CJGA Junior at Kings Riding. Gillis had tournament scores of 76-83-159 to finish just three strokes off of Bulau’s pace.
Bantam Girls U15
Alissa Xu from Richmond Hill, ON was able to win the Bantam Girls division at Kings Riding after posting scores of 87-91-178. Her opening round 87 gave her a four shot lead entering the final round, in which she was able to extend her lead to nine shots. Xu’s first round 87 was the low round in the division during the event.
“The first day my shots were decent except for a couple miss hits, but the second day my putting was on fire,” explained Xu in a post round interview “my putter was the best club in my bag all week.”
Placing in second was Calista Zeng of Maple, ON. Zeng had scores of 91-96-187 to finish nine back of Xu’s pace.
