Below is a list of how Canadian golfers fared across the major professional tours the week prior.
PGA TOUR
Harris English made a 6-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to win the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, as the PGA Tour season resumed following the Christmas break. English missed a 10-foot eagle putt in regulation that forced the playoff with Joaquin Niemann, who carded a final round 64 which matched the low score of the tournament. In a typical year, English would not have qualified for the winners only event as he had not posted a win in the previous year. But the field was expanded to include anyone who reached the Tour Championship because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dustin Johnson, in his first start since winning the Masters in November, finished tied for 11th, ending his streak of seven consecutive top 10s dating back to the first week in August. …Nick Taylor, who qualified for the tournament with his win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am in February, was just three shots off the lead after his opening round 67…Mackenzie Hughes, who got into the tournament after finishing 14th on the FedEx Cup standings list, begins the year as the top-ranked Canadian and the only Canadian golfer ranked inside the top 50.
