Rouble & McGrath Win Low Overall MJT Titles At Flamborough Hills

COPETOWN, Ontario — The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Ontario Series at Flamborough Hills Golf Club in Copetown had a full field of young golfers from across the province competed for titles in six divisions in one of the final events of the 2021 MJT Junior Tour schedule.
Andrew Rouble, 17, of Wellesley, ON, finished on top of the MJT Junior Boys Division with scores of 73 and 71 (144). Rouble’s performance at Flamborough Hills marks his third MJT win of the season. “My driving was very good and keeping the ball in the fairway was important on this golf course,” commented Rouble. “The course layout was awesome because the tight fairways tested your play off the tee and the smaller, sloped greens tested your short game.” Sean He-Zimmerman, 17, of Mississauga, ON, finished the division in second place with scores of 74 and 77 (151).
Lindsay McGrath, of Oakville, ON, pulled away from the field in the MJT Girls 15-19 with an impressive final round to secure the title and Girls low overall score. The 14-year-old golfer recorded rounds of 76 and 71 (147) to win by six shots after sitting in a three-way tie for the lead after the first day of play. “I was feeling good coming into the event because my swing felt good,” commented McGrath. “I was able to put the ball in the fairway off the tee and make some putts.” Sarah Yang, 14, of Oakville, ON, shot 76 and 77 (153) to finish runner-up.
A tight leaderboard in the MJT Juvenile Boys Division saw one shot separate the top three players after 36 holes of competition. Toronto, ON’s Ben De Castro returned to the winner’s circle with scores of 82 and 72 (154). “I made lots of clutch putts throughout the tournament,” commented De Castro. “The conditions were great and it was nice to bounce back after the first round.” Elmira, ON, golfer Tyson Roth, 15, saw a 15-shot improvement from round one over round two as he charged back up the leaderboard to finish tied for second place with scores of 85 and 70 (155) with Mississauga, ON, golfer Andrew Lee, 15, (78-77=155).
In the MJT Bantam Boys Division, 14-year-old Rylan Hall, of Stratford, ON, put together solid scores of 70 and 74 (144) to win the title by an impressive 10-shot margin. Hall, who is a newcomer to the MJT in 2021, picked up a top-five and runner-up finish in his first two starts and now entered the winner’s circle in his third event. Burlington, ON’s Aiden Pavey, 14, carded 77 and 77 (154) to finish runner-up.
The MJT Girls U15 Division saw great play continue from 13-year-old Angela Cai, of Oakville, ON. Cai finished the tournament with a two-shot winning margin (78-77=155). Cai’s impressive season this year on the MJT has included five wins and handful of top finishes. Oakville, ON, resident Kaprice Park, 11, finished the division runner-up with scores of 79 and 77 (156).
Exciting action took place in the MJT Peewee Boys Division where three shots separated the top three players. Coming from behind with a fantastic closing round of 69 to get the win was 12-year-old Brayden Card, of Cambridge, ON, (74-69=143). “My putting was definitely the reason I won today,” commented Card. “The course was in great shape and I’m really happy to get the win.” Richmond Hill, ON, golfer Max Li, 11, shot 73 and 71 (144) to also come from behind to finish in second place.
