VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the Vancouver Golf Tour are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached to bring the Vancouver Open Championship back to Fraserview, McCleery and Langara golf courses for the next three years.
The Vancouver Open is a 54-hole event which gives Canada’s rising golf stars an opportunity to springboard their careers onto major golf tour success. The event is open to all professional and amateur golfers with a registered Golf Canada or United States Golf Association (USGA) handicap factor of 20.0 or less. An accompanying Charity Pro-Am event also welcomes amateurs with a handicap of 30.0 and under to play with a top pro for the day.
“We are delighted to partner with the Vancouver Golf Tour to host these events once again in our community. It is an excellent opportunity for players to gain tour experience, and for us to support and showcase the best local golf prospects by challenging their skill at our amazing municipal golf courses”, said Dennis Luick, Supervisor of Golf Operations, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation.
Starting with the Charity Pro-Am, which takes place on Wednesday, August 17 at Fraserview Golf Course, four amateurs will play with a top tour professional from the Pacific Northwest. The Vancouver Open Championship will then kick off on Friday, August 19. The tournament is a 54-hole stroke play championship with a cut after two days for both professionals and amateurs. Competitors will rotate between McCleery and Langara golf courses for the first two rounds, then the final round, played at Fraserview Golf Course on August 21, will determine the 2022 Vancouver Open Champion.
The 2022 tournament will feature four amateur handicap divisions plus both a Senior Amateur Title (55+) and Women’s Open Championship. Spectators are welcome and admission is free. Donations will be accepted at the gate for all event days with proceeds going directly to support junior golf programs.
“The players love to come back to the Vancouver municipal golf courses to compete in the Vancouver Open Championship. We’re looking forward to watching the top local and Pacific Northwest golf talent play out on the beautiful fairways and manicured greens of Fraserview, McCleery and Langara golf courses during this fantastic three-day event,” stated Fraser Mulholland, Commissioner of the Vancouver Golf Tour.
Formerly known as the Vancouver City Open, this event was held at Fraserview, McCleery and Langara from 2009 to 2013. The event returned in its current format in 2018 as the Vancouver Open with a Charity Pro-Am followed by a 54-hole Championship.
