The World’s #1 Ball Has Been Updated – The 2025 Version Titleist Pro V1 & Pro V1x: Enhanced Spin Without Sacrificing Distance

Dr. Barry Lotz, Inside Golf

Blueprint:

Pro V1: Three-piece construction with a urethane cover.

Pro V1x: Four-piece, dual-core design with a urethane cover.

The 2025 Pro V1x has a higher compression than the Pro V1, giving it a firmer feel. It also generates more spin throughout the bag and flies slightly higher than the Pro V1, making it an excellent choice for players seeking added control and a steeper descent angle into greens.

Intended Audience:

Pro V1: Golfers seeking elite distance, greenside control, and increased spin with irons and wedges.

Pro V1x: Players who prefer a higher launch, firmer feel, and increased spin throughout the bag.

Essential Information:

The 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x maintain their renowned distance off the tee while delivering more spin with irons and wedges, enhancing shot control.

A Legacy of Performance

Introduced 25 years ago, the Pro V1 quickly became the most-played ball in professional golf and has maintained its dominance ever since. Last season, around 70% of PGA Tour players used either the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, with even higher adoption rates across other professional tours and elite amateur events.

Despite their widespread popularity among recreational golfers, Titleist avoids drastic changes to these models. Instead, they refine each new version based on insights from tour professionals, weekend golfers, and trends in equipment design.

Why the 2025 Update?

With low-spin drivers and stronger-lofted irons becoming more common, Titleist designed the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x to provide additional spin where it matters—on iron and wedge shots. This allows players to generate more control and stopping power on approach shots while maintaining consistent distance off the tee.

How It Was Developed

Titleist tested over 100 prototypes before finalizing the new models, with extensive input from tour pros. Wyndham Clark, 2023 U.S. Open champion, tested the Pro V1 prototype at Bay Hill and noted increased ball speed with more spin from the fairway. Lilia Vu (2023 LPGA Player of the Year) and Adam Scott (2013 Masters Champion) echoed similar praise.

Construction: Three-piece design with a gradational rubber core, firm mantle layer, and soft urethane cover.

Core Updates: The compression is slightly higher, increasing ball speed off the tee while maintaining a familiar trajectory.

Performance: Generates more spin on approach shots, improving shot-shaping ability and greenside control.

Feel & Flight: Softer feel than the Pro V1x, with slightly lower flight and reduced spin off the tee.

Construction: Four-piece design with dual-core technology, a firm mantle layer, and a urethane cover.

Core Updates: The new gradational core increases speed, but to comply with USGA distance regulations, the final version was fine-tuned for a slightly lower peak height than the 2023 Pro V1x.

Performance: More spin throughout the bag, providing higher flight and enhanced control.

Feel & Flight: Firmer than the Pro V1, with a higher launch and greater overall spin.

Final Thoughts

While amateur golfers often believe lower spin equates to more distance, Titleist’s research suggests that many players actually benefit from increased spin—helping improve carry distance, stopping power, and overall consistency. With the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x, golfers will experience the same trusted tee performance with added control where it matters most.
