Over the course of the past few decades, a select group of notables like Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm have successfully earned PGA TOUR membership as non-members, a difficult route that requires taking advantage of a combination of sponsor invitations and Monday qualifiers.
It’s not an easy feat, but one that’s possible for players who maximize their opportunities.
Next in line could be Sam Burns.
The Louisiana State alum carded a final-round, 2-over 73 at the Valspar Championship to post 4-under-par for the event, good for a tie for 12th place. The 21-year-old from Shreveport, Louisiana earned 59.25 unofficial FedExCup points, bringing his total non-member standing to 180.9 points for the season, just 88.1 points shy of earning Special Temporary Membership.
