DCM Launches Power Up Initiative

By PGA OF CANADA

Aspiring women golf professionals with the dream of playing on the LPGA Tour will now have added support thanks to the creation of the DCM Power Up initiative.

DCM, in partnership with the PGA of Canada, is launching five newly created bursaries for 2019 to support women in golf who are on the verge of breaking through to the next level and are in need of support to pursue their dream of playing golf at the world’s highest level.

“Building on our support of the DCM PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, DCM is thrilled to announce the funding of five bursaries for the 2019 season,” said DCM President and CEO Greg Cochrane. “Support for women’s sport and women’s golf, in particular, lags considerably behind the funding for men’s golf in this country,” he said, adding,  “we believe DCM support can make a difference for many of these professional athletes to reach their goals of playing and winning on the LPGA Tour.”

The five athletes will be selected based on a set of guidelines and criteria created by the newly formed bursary committee. Athletes may also apply to be selected by the committee. The committee includes:

adidas Golf Canada General Manager Lesley Hawkins
TSN anchor Natasha Staniszewski
RBC Senior Vice President of Business – Distribution, Strategy and Performance, Personal and Commercial Banking Kim Mason
DCM Chief Innovation Officer Chris Lund

“I congratulate DCM on the launch of this exceptional bursary initiative and we are so proud to have them as a national partner of our association,” said PGA of Canada CEO Kevin Thistle. “The commitment DCM and it’s bursary committee members has shown to support women in golf achieve their loftiest goals is outstanding.”

In addition to the monetary funding of athletes, committee members will bring a wealth of valuable tools to the table such as mentorship, training, financial planning and management from RBC, full apparel outfitting from adidas Golf Canada, media training and personal branding from Staniszewski, and personal business tools from DCM.

Committing to five athletes — four of whom will be Canadian, while the fifth will be an international golfer — by the end of this summer, the DCM Power Up initiative will support each athlete with a $5,000 bursary for entry into the LPGA Tour’s Q-School.
