No matter the weather, be it sunny and warm or rainy and cold, Dustin Risdon figures out a way to walk away with the winner’s share of the prize purse more often than not.
That proved true at The Ranch Golf & Country Club during the first major PGA of Alberta tournament of year. Risdon sat second after Day 1 of the 36-hole event, but more than made up ground as he overtook first-round leader Craig Gibson to win the Players’ Tour event by a full eight shots.
Risdon, from the National Golf Academy @ McCall Lake in Calgary, said he was shocked to find the second round underway given the brutal weather conditions, but a birdie on the opening hole showed him he could persevere in the foul conditions. He did exactly that by carding a 3-under 69 to go with his opening 68, earning $1,825 for his efforts.
While it’s not known what he’ll do with his winnings, perhaps a suggestion might be to buy a rain suit to leave in his car.
“I didn’t think we were playing,” he said later. “I showed up for the tee time and was like, “Really? We’re all playing?”
They were and he played well enough to once again walk away with the major prize money.
