DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) announced that Zimmer Biomet, a global leader in musculoskeletal healthcare, has been named an Official Marketing Partner and will have a significant presence at four LPGA Tour events during the 2019 season.
Zimmer Biomet will be designated the Official Joint Replacement Provider of the LPGA and the Official Joint Replacement Provider of the Symetra Tour, the LPGA Tour’s official qualifying tour. Additionally, LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame member Nancy Lopez, a 48-time winner on the LPGA Tour, will serve as a brand ambassador for Zimmer Biomet.
"The LPGA is very proud to welcome Zimmer Biomet to our family as an Official Marketing Partner," said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. "As the LPGA’s Official Joint Replacement Provider, we know that in collaboration with healthcare professionals around the globe they help millions of people live better lives. We’re excited to showcase to our players and to our fans what Zimmer Biomet can offer through doctor/patient seminars that we will be conducting at some of our LPGA Tour events this season."
"We are excited to partner with the LPGA and Nancy Lopez to raise awareness of musculoskeletal disease. Studies show that women are more frequently diagnosed with osteoarthritis, a precursor to the disease, and more often have less access to medical care," said Ivan Tornos, Zimmer Biomet's Group President, Orthopedics. "Zimmer Biomet is proud to have been at the forefront of addressing the issue of musculoskeletal healthcare disparities. We believe it is critical that quality musculoskeletal healthcare is available and accessible to all people regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, geographic location or socioeconomic status."
Zimmer Biomet doctor/patient seminars will be held offsite during four LPGA Tour events this year. Each of those tournaments will also feature the Lesson Zone presented by Zimmer Biomet, a 'Meet and Greet' with Lopez and a golf clinic hosted by Lopez.
"Representing a company that has a product that has changed my life is pretty exciting, and to be the spokesperson for Zimmer Biomet and to talk about it is fantastic," said Lopez, who had her left knee replaced in Florida last November after having her right knee replaced one year earlier. "It's going to be a lot of fun to reach out to people that pretty much are afraid to do anything with knee replacements. "
Zimmer Biomet will also be a title sponsor on the Symetra Tour. The May 23-26 Zimmer Biomet Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez will be played on the Lake Course at Grand National (RTJ Golf Trail) in Opelika, Alabama where the players will compete for total prize money of $300,000. The Lake Course previously played host to the PGA TOUR from 2015-2017.
"We are grateful to Zimmer Biomet for embracing the Symetra Tour," said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour. "The inclusion of Nancy Lopez as the hostess for this inaugural event makes for a special week for our players, sponsors and fans."
Lopez will attend both the pro-am competition and the pro-am party at the Zimmer Biomet Championship.
