HONOLULU, Hawaii — Tiger Woods is designing an Oahu golf course, according to resort officials.
Woods will design his first golf course in Hawaii as part of a $300 million development for the Makaha Valley Resort, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.
Woods and his TGR Design Company were chosen to develop one of two courses, while the second course will be designed by golf architect Gil Hanse, designer of the Olympic course in Rio de Janeiro, resort officials said.
A timeline for opening the courses on property owned by Pacific Links International of Toronto was not disclosed by resort officials.
The mixed-use development will include a golf club, arts and community centre, and a health and wellness centre in the first phase.
A second phase will include a timeshare, golf villas and multifamily residential units, according to officials.
Pacific Links owner and founder Du Sha developed a relationship with Woods that led to the announcement, said real estate developer Stanford Carr, who has worked with Pacific Links on the project in recent years.
The project was originally touted featuring a renovation of the Makaha Golf Club West by Greg Norman Golf Course Design, but Carr said factors led to that effort growing too costly.
