KA’ANAPALI BEACH, MAUI — Now into its 40th year of operation on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui, it appears the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is just hitting its stride. After all, this hotel located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean in the Ka’anapali Beach area, has everything your family could hope for during a dream vacation.

“There are just so many great views from this resort and so many rooms with great ocean views,” marvelled the Hyatt’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Klara Crocco, while enjoying a morning visit at Honolulu Coffee in the hotel’s grand foyer. “The other great thing about this resort is the amount of options we have as far as dining goes,” including an award winning steak house, the phenomenal Asian-inspired Japengo restaurant, and some of the best shave ice anywhere on the island at Ululani’s, located right on site.

Added Crocco, “There are so many different things, and experiences, throughout the resort,” that if a guest desired they really never need to wander away from the resort during their island time.

While it’s a middle-aged property, the Hyatt Regency Maui is young at heart and that shows through with the attention paid to its youngest visitors. Kids are welcome here, and treated royally with any number of activities to keep them occupied during their stay. One of the most popular kids’ amenities, no matter what age those ‘kids’ may be, has to be the seven penguins who patrol a special area within the lobby. Another exciting element that the kids are sure to enjoy is the Tour of the Stars. This is such a great program that the Hyatt Regency Maui has been named as the World’s Best Hotel for stargazing with three shows nightly, including the special 10:00 p.m. Romance Tour.

Speaking to that amenity, Crocco noted, “We’ve been voted the best resort for star gazing in the world,” curated by Edward Mahoney, M.S., the Director of Astronomy and who is a NASA Ambassador. “He’s very, very knowledgeable and has been doing this for over 20 years,” and he reflects on the importance of stars, and star gazing, as to how the original settlers found their way to this piece of paradise.

But wait, there’s even. more going on here. “We also have flamingos, and Madison, who is one of our parrots and who people can hold and our Drums of the Pacific Lu’au that has a kids’ menu,” something not often seen on the island, explained Crocco.

As for the resort’s offered accommodations, there are over 800 rooms here including more than 30 suites. The rooms are laid out within three different towers that rise above the ocean offering spectacular views of the water, and at the right time of year, humpback whales frolicking offshore. The resort is set on over 40 acres or prime real estate and offers a huge swimming pool, a fitness centre, a wonderful spa and it sits only minutes away from the Royal and Kai golf courses as well as the popular Whalers Village.

Another aspect that appeals to guests at the Hyatt Regency Maui is that besides being a place to rest and relax, there is shopping galore right within the property. One of the biggest retailers is Macy’s, who occupy a mega-sized area within the complex. “They’re our biggest vendor, which is amazing because otherwise (to visit their store) you have to go to the other side of the island,” explained Crocco. “This Macy’s has the largest selection, and sales, of beachwear in the country!”

The Hyatt Regency also pays homage to local craftspeople as each Friday, they open their doors to artisans who can provide that unique, unexpected gift for friends or family back home, be it a picture, jewelry, or a memento that has deep meanings for its recipient.

So if you’re planning a trip to this gorgeous and popular island, you may want to check out the action at the Hyatt Regency Maui. After all, it has something for everyone whether you want to just relax, or explore to your heart’s content.
